Improving the welfare of Papuans received special attention from Radio New Zealand

On March 18, 2020, Radio New Zealand broadcast very positive news about an increase in the welfare of the population in Papua, which was described in the Human development index figures.

The news was published by Radio New Zealand (RNZ) with the title “Human development index figures are improving in Papuan provinces of Indonesia”.

Radio New Zealand said that over the years the level of welfare of the population in Papua, especially in the field of health and poverty, was very behind compared to other regions in Indonesia.

However, the results of the Indonesian Statistics Institute report on Human development index figures recently showed progress in the last two years both in the provinces of Papua and in the province of West Papua.

The report stated that the Human development index in the province of Papua is currently 60.84, up 1.3 percent compared to 2018 while the Human development index for the province of West Papua currently touches 64.7 or up 1.5 percent from the previous year.

Radio New Zealand also said that there was an increase in the life expectancy of babies born in 2019 who are now predicted to be able to pass the age of 65 years.

Radio New Zealand also mentioned an increase in opportunities to enjoy education in both provinces.

In West Papua in 2019, children aged seven years have the opportunity to attend school for 12.72 years, an increase of 0.19 years compared to 2018. Meanwhile in Papua province in 2019, children aged seven years have the expectation of being able to enjoy education for 11.05 years, 0.22 years longer compared to 2018.

Tells The Truths responded positively to the news delivered by Radio New Zealand, which so far has often shown a negative side in Papua without examining the accuracy and truth of the news.

The news about improving the welfare of the population in the two provinces in Papua as illustrated in the improvement of the Human development index is proof that the Indonesian government has worked hard to push the pace of prosperity in Papua.

The news is also expected to open the eyes of many people who have been negatively looking at the development of conditions in Papua and make them aware that there is currently continuing to be better development in Papua.
