Criminal Separatist Group (CSG) in West Papua continues to create terror to the population by attacking Indonesian military personnel patrolling the area to secure the infrastructure development in West Papua. The attack resulted in three Indonesian military personnel killed and seven members of CSG dead.  Infrastructure development by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia in West Papua was again obstructed by the CSG. On March 7, 2019, they attacked Indonesian military personnel providing support to the Indonesian National Police to secure development projects in the Nduga Regency. The attack resulted in three Indonesian military personnel killed and seven CSG members dead.

Colonel Muhammad Aidi, spokesperson of the Indonesian Military Area Command in Papua, mentioned that there were 50 members of CSG attacked Indonesian military personnel whom supporting the Indonesian National Police to secure the Trans Papua-Wamena project in Mugi District, Nduga Regency.

He added that the attacking group (CSG) was led by Egianus Kagoya. “The Indonesian military personnel returned fire until the CSG members retreated to the forest. The attack caused three Indonesian military personnel killed,” he said. They were Second Sgt. Mirwariyadin, Second Sgt. Yusdin and Second Sgt. Siswanto Bayu Aji.

Furthermore, Colonel Muhammad Aidi states that following the attack, the Indonesian military personnel were able to maintain security in the area and secured five fire arms, which belongs to the CSG members. They also recovered one dead CSG members, which identity is being identified. Colonel Muhammad Aidi also estimated at least seven members of the CSG dead during the attack, but their bodies were taken by the group.

Due to security reason and the need for the Trans Papua-Wamena project to continue, Indonesian military sent 600 of its personnel from South Sulawesi to Mimika Regency in order to support the Indonesian National Police in securing infrastructure project, which consists of 30 bridges to link Trans Papua-Wamena and Mamugu, and to achieve the total length of the roads, 28,430 kilomenters.

These development projects started in 2017 and conducted by the two State-Owned Companies (BUMN) namely PT Istaka Karya and PT Brantas Abipraya, but until now, they only able to complete five bridges because of the obstruction conducted by CSG led by Egianus Kagoya.

The Indonesian military continues to support the Indonesian National Police to maintain security in the area formerly occupied by the Criminal Separatist Group (CSG) led by Egianus Kogoya and the area in the vicinity of the development project in order to protect the people from the CSG and enable the two companies to complete their development projects.

Tell the Truths NZ can sadly state that these heinous acts of brutality committed by the Criminal Separatist Group (CSG) occurred many times in the past and more are predicted in the future. Despite of the reality on the role of the Indonesian military in supporting the development projects in West Papua and become target of the Criminal Separatist Group (CSG), the media tend to miss it and focus on blaming the Government of the Republic of Indonesia for the situation in West Papua.
